Profile: Markus Pekert, a native from Austria started his cookery career in his hometown of Vienna in 1990. Once he completed his apprenticeship and technical studies, Markus entered the Austrian Armed Forces. On completion of his military duty, Markus joined the Sheraton Hotel Vienna as Demi Chef, where he worked for 2 years. Having the urge to travel, Markus joined Cunard Cruises where he worked as a Chef de Partie for a season cruising the Caribbean on Luxury 5 star vessels. A desire to see the South Seas, Markus moved to New Zealand where he worked as Sous Chef at the world famous Hermitage Hotel on Mount Cook, New Zealand's highest mountain. Markus then moved to Sydney where he joined the Sheraton on the Park Hotel and then the Sir Stamford at Circular Quay for 3 years. Markus Pekert is clearly one of Sydney's leading 5 star chef's. From his years of travelling, Markus has developed a huge level of experience in cooking different styles of cuisine. Markus was the winner of a Gold Medal awarded at the 2001 Salon Culinaire.
